Event description

PsychMed and Gynaecology Plus

Cognitive Processing Therapy to treat the symptons of trauma in survivors of Female Genital Mutilation

Presented by Dr Samantha Angelakis, Dr Fariba B-Willison, Activist Khadija Gbla

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) can leave long-lasting emotional, mental, and physical scars that can result in ongoing pain if left untreated. Join our presenters to better understand the effects of FGM and how cognitive processing therapy can help survivors.

Dr Angelakis is a Clinical Psychologist who is passionate about working with women who have experienced trauma through FGM. Through an evidence-based treatment called Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dr Angelakis sensitively teaches individuals how to identify and manage distressing thoughts, beliefs, and feelings brought up by your past experiences. The goal is to improve well being and help individuals move towards living a happier, healthier life.
